Charles and Camilla 'should marry'

Prince Charles should marry Camilla Parker Bowles, the former Archbishop of Canterbury has said.

Lord Carey of Clifton has given his blessing for the prince to remarry, saying: "He is the heir to the throne and he loves her. The natural thing is that they should get married."

Lord Carey revealed he had held secret meetings with Miss Parker Bowles after her relationship with the prince was made public. He admitted visiting her home several times and showed his strong support for the Prince of Wales by describing him as "more sinned against than sinning" by the late Princess of Wales.

Acknowledging that the couple's love had endured through their marriages to other people, Lord Carey told The Times: "That's part of the fallibility of the human condition."

The Church of England has never made an official statementshowing its support for or against a marriage between the two, although some bishops are thought to be in favour.

Meanwhile, Princess Diana's former butler Paul Burrell has said he will not attend the unveiling of a memorial in her honour out of respect for Princes William and Harry.

He claims too much attention would be given to his first meeting with the princes since they accused him of betrayal, rather than the event itself. Speaking to the Daily Mirror, Mr Burrell said: "It is becoming uncomfortably clear that the day could focus on how William and Harry react to me."

It is believed the Queen will officially open the memorial in Hyde Park on 6 July.
