Challenge to skirt-only rule

Schoolgirls across the UK could soon be ditching their skirts for a pair of trousers if the Equal Opportunities Commission has its way.

The commission has confirmed it plans to take an unnamed school to court in a test case to force it do away with its skirts-only dress policy for female pupils.

"I believe that preventing girls from having the option of wearing trousers is unlawful sex discrimination," said EOC chairwoman Julie Mellor.
