CBI urges Ministers to boost pensions

DIGBY Jones, the CBI leader, has called on the Government to pay into every new pension, encouraging young people to save for their old age.

On the eve of the CBI conference in Birmingham, Jones told Financial Mail: 'This is such an important issue. The CBI has not worked out the details of the scheme, but it is vital that the Government makes an imaginative decision. People have to be encouraged into pensions.'

His thinking comes as the CBI, in a dramatic U-turn, said it had not ruled out compulsory company contributions.
