Catherine's sporting hopes for Dylan

Michael Douglas and Catherine Zeta-Jones brought a dash of Hollywood glamour to the Laureus World Sports Awards in Monte Carlo last night and revealed their sporting ambitions for their own son.

The couple were the star attraction at a celebrity dinner in advance of tonight's sports ceremony. They topped off a night of goodwill when Miss Zeta-Jones, 32, paid 50,000 euros at a charity auction for a set of photographs of sports legends, helping to raise 192,000 euros for the Sport for Good Foundation.

Douglas, 57, revealed he hoped their son Dylan would become a sports star. "He's only two but I think I would like him to do sport," he said."My choice would be tennis or basketball, but Catherine is into what you call football, so I think she would most like him to do that."

Other guests at the party, at the Monte Carlo Sporting Club, included Sir Sean Connery and Morgan Freeman, British actors Dougray Scott and Vinnie Jones and model Heidi Klum.

Sporting stars included Ian Botham, Sir Bobby Charlton, basketball's Michael Jordan and John McEnroe and Boris Becker from the world of tennis. Britain's most successful paralympic athlete Tanni Grey-Thompson also attended.
