Scolarest's managing director Tony Sanders was confronted by the TV chef in his fight against processed meals. The firm supplies 1,300 state schools, and has a turnover of about £250million in Britain. However, profits are under pressure. Parent company Compass Group said last year that its mainly five-year contracts were "failing to deliver the margins we anticipated". It blames higher costs, more pupils eating packed lunches and pressure on school meal budgets. Scolarest faces financial penalties if it pulls out of contracts.
