NOBODY is immune from the wonder of Woolworths' last days, including David Cameron. The Conservative leader was among tens of thousands who made use of the 50 per cent off everything offers introduced as the chain is winded up.

He and wife Samantha snapped up wrapping paper and a toy truck at their local branch in Portobello Road, west London.

The chain called in the administrators last week after 95 years of trading as it fell victim to massive debts and poor sales.

Its half-price offers has produced the best sales figures since it first appeared on the British high street.

The shop, the most high-profile high-street casualty of the downturn to date, is expected to disappear early next year barring a last-minute bid to keep it alive. Even if a buyer is found half of the chain's 816 stores are expected to close and 15,000 jobs lost.
