Calum Best: I stick by my dad

George Best's son Calum has spoken movingly of his father's battle with alcohol.

In his first interview since the former soccer star was revealed to be drinking again following his lifesaving liver transplant, Calum said: "I love him and I stick by him".

The model was speaking at a party to celebrate the UK premiere of the Hollywood blockbuster Pirates Of The Caribbean.

Calum, 22, said: "He is at home now and the situation has been resolved at the moment. Everything is cool."

He added: "It's funny as I see myself in him sometimes - but that's all I want to say. We have been totally exhausted by all this. We just want to be left alone now."

Best senior spent last night back at his home in Kingswood, Surrey, after his failure to come home the previous evening had driven his wife Alex to despair.

The former Manchester United star arrived home at lunchtime yesterday to stage a public reconciliation with her and they kissed and cuddled as they sunbathed on the lawn of their cottage.

Best, 57, had spent most of Sunday in the Chequers pub, where he had earlier been arrested following a reported scuffle with a newspaper photographer, before being released without charge.

Last year Best said he had abandoned drink forever after undergoing the transplant when he was said to have only weeks left to live.

Rising British star Keira Knightley stole the show at the premiere in a tight black corset.

Knightley, 18, from Richmond, who rose to fame in Bend It Like Beckham and the TV version of Dr Zhivago, fainted during the filming of Pirates Of The Caribbean after having to wear a restrictive corset - but chose to wear one again for the premiere at the Odeon, Leicester Square. She said: "It is very tight but it gives you a fabulous cleavage. I couldn't resist it."

Knightley's on-screen love interest Orlando Bloom planted a kiss on her cheek at the premiere. Pirates Of The Caribbean has already topped the box office in America. Their fellow star Johnny Depp was not at the UK screening.
