Britons jailed for insulting Greek team

Five young Britons were today each sentenced today to six weeks jail on the island of Zakynthos for insulting the Greek flag, police and Euro 2004-winning football team.

It will cost the the five Yorkshire holidaymakers a total of £1,400 to buy off their sentences after they apologised in court. But they must also stump up for extra air fares after missing their Club 18-30 flight home.

Their insults - which included the "family honour" of Greek officers - came after they jumped naked into the harbour from a drinking party on a chartered boat.
