Briton cleared of Morocco bombing

A Briton has been dramatically acquitted of taking part in a bombing campaign in Morocco which killed 44 people.

Perry Jensen, 37, a convert to Islam who grew up in Notting Hill, has been cleared by a Moroccan court of any link to the attacks in Casablanca in May which left 100 others injured.

Moroccan intelligence sources said that Mr Jensen, pictured here for the first time, was "a highly dangerous man". They claim to have evidence of him operating in war zones in Che chnya, Afghanistan and Pakistan.

Today Mr Jensen's family told the Evening Standard he is simply a feckless ladies' man. A picture emerges of an impulsive drifter with a string of convictions for stealing and burglary, who has also fathered nine children in a series of brief relationships.

His sister Karen Jensen said: "He's far from a terrorist. He's just an English guy who sometimes wears Muslim clothes.

"He prays, he's a Muslim and that's it. The only thing he does is acts on impulse. That doesn't make him a terrorist. He's not part of any group."

She added: "He went out to Morocco because he has a Moroccan wife living out there who is pregnant and he went for a week to see her. I think he also wanted to bring back some Moroccan goods to sell."

"He's very naive, he doesn't know anything about Moroccan customs. If anything he's just clumsy. He travelled by himself but he's been associated with these people who as far as I know he doesn't know."

Mr Jensen's mother, Mary Schrembi, said: "He was a pain when he was a boy and he's a pain now. But I know he is not involved in terrorist groups."

Born in Paddington and brought up in Notting Hill, with an Indian father he hardly knew, Parry Jensen became fascinated by North Africa after growing up alongside Moroccan friends in the Sixties and Seventies.

"He's pretty bright," his sister said. But by the time he left Cardinal Manning Catholic School, he had started stealing and handling stolen goods and spent time in Feltham Young Offenders Institution.

As an adult, he made money selling incense and Islamic tapes outside mosques in west London. At the time of his arrest, he was still being supervised by the probation service after release from jail following a 2001 burglary conviction.

Jensen has spent two months in a Moroccan jail and was charged last week with membership of the group believed to be behind the bombing outrage in a Casablanca shopping centre in May.

He was cleared yesterday after a Moroccan judge found no evidence to link him to the attacks. But he was jailed for four months for immorality over his illegal marriage to a 17-year-old girl.

After learning that her brother had been cleared on terror charges, Karen Jensen said: "It's wonderful news.

"I knew he couldn't be involved with these people. It just didn't add up. How can my brother be living this double life that we know nothing about?"

Ms Jensen, who lives in Ladbroke Grove, said his love of the opposite sex was the only reason he had travelled to north Africa. "Perry loves women," she said. "That's why he went out to Morocco. I can't think how or why he would have been tied up with all this terrorist stuff.

"He was arrested by himself at Casablanca airport. They took all his money and his belongings and we haven't heard from him since."

Despite reports that Mr Jensen has committed bigamy by marrying his 17-year-old Moroccan wife whilst still wed to Leila Nagouri, who lives in Hammersmith Peabody Estate with their fouryearold child and baby, his sister insists the marriages were only according to Muslim custom.

She also revealed that Jensen's estranged British wife only learned that he had been imprisoned in the northern city of Fez after he failed to return home from his planned week-long stay.

Ms Jensen said: "If it wasn't for us making enquiries ourselves, I don't even think the Moroccans would have told us they had him. They hadn't informed the British Consulate and they hadn't even told his wife in Fez."
