Briton, 24, swept to death on dream trip

A British woman on the trip of a lifetime has died after being swept away by a fast-flowing river in south-east Asia.

Rescuers searching for media studies graduate Mia-Lucy Rose, 24, today confirmed they had found her body.

There had been hopes she had survived after being caught in strong currents of the Mekong in Laos on Tuesday.

Ms Rose left Britain in October for a 15-month trip around the world. Her parents, Derek and Pauline Rose, had flown to Thailand to help find her. Her brother Mark, 28, a radiographer from Sutton, Surrey, and sister Louise, 27, were co-ordinating the search from the family home in Gorleston, Norfolk.

Ms Rose was wading across the river with a friend, Martin Ward, when she was caught by the current.

Her brother said today: "She probably crammed more into her 24 years than most of us do in a lifetime."
