Boots reveals swimwear

First it was Benylin, then it was Botox, now Boots the chemist is turning its hand to selling bikinis. The chain, better known for supplying corn plasters and haemorrhoid cream, has always had a slightly matronly image. But today Boots stages its first catwalk fashion show in central London to launch its new highfashion swimwear range.

After years of stocking sensible swimming costumes, it has set its sights on the glamourous end of the market in a move that could trigger a fashion war with Marks & Spencer, which also launches a new range of sportswear today.

As well as its own ranges of bikinis, swimsuits, sarongs and wrap-arounds, Boots will be showing off the latest Naff Naff collection in tropical prints and sporty triangle bikinis by Speedo.

“It’s a move away from our traditional strengths," said a spokesperson. “We want to make Boots a one-stop shop so you can get everything for the summer from mosquito repellent to a bikini."
