Blunkett's attack on love rival

David Blunkett returned to public life today and made a withering attack on his love rival Simon Hoggart.

The former home secretary spoke for the first time about revelations that his lover Kimberly Quinn had also seen the broadcaster and writer. Mr Blunkett stepped down from the Cabinet last year after his affair with married Mrs Quinn became dogged by a row over her nanny's visa.

The couple are locked in a dispute over access to her two-year-old son. In an interview for BBC Radio 4's Today programme, Mr Blunkett said he could not listen to the station's News Quiz because it was hosted by Mr Hoggart, 58. Mr Blunkett was discussing his love of English humour when he said: "I even used to like the News Quiz, but I can't listen to it any more." A shocked James Naughtie said: "I think we will leave that one right there."
