Blair 'sorry' for WMD claim

Tony Blair is "very sorry" about the misleading intelligence claims over Iraq, one of his closest Cabinet allies said today.

Lord Falconer made the concession as pressure mounted on the Prime Minister to make a formal Commons apology for misleading MPs over weapons of mass destruction.

The Lord Chancellor told BBC radio: "He made it clear he is sorry about the sort of issue, the 45-minute issue. He is very sorry about that."

Mr Blair expressed regret to the Labour conference but his words fell short of an apology.
