Blair reveals who paid for those family holidays

Tony Blair today officially declared details of his family's foreign trips and holidays in the latest register of MPs' interests.

Included are details of Cherie Blair's trip to Bermuda with a " family group" in May last year which saw the country's Bar Association paying the costs of her flight.

Other "travel and flight costs" were met by Mrs Blair, the Prime Minister's entry reveals. It also shows details of a sightseeing tour of Petra funded by King Abdullah of Jordan for the Blair family during their December break.

Last August the family "spent 20 nights at a private villa in Barbados" owned by Sir Cliff Richard. Mr Blair says he made a donation to charity "in lieu of the cost of this accommodation". He also says he paid for all other expenses, including flights.

The longest entry - running to three full pages - belongs to former Tory minister Michael Portillo, who lists speaking engagements, press articles, and payments for TV programmes running well into six figures. Former Cabinet minister Robin Cook declares £450,000 which he got from his book, Point Of Departure.

Defence Secretary Geoff Hoon declares his trip to the British Grand Prix at Silverstone, days after the death of scientist David Kelly. Other ministers who attended the Grand Prix, and declare their trips today, include Commons Leader Peter Hain and Trade Secretary Patricia Hewitt.

Big-earning Tories include William Hague, who declares earnings of at least £335,000 from public speaking, journalism and as an adviser. Ann Widdecombe got a £100,000 advance for her third and fourth novels.
