BlackBerry saves skier from 700ft plunge

A SKIER who fell into a crevasse was saved from falling to his death when the phone in his pocket became wedged between rocks.

David Fitzherbert, 52, was skiing off-piste in the Matterhorn and Monterosa peaks in Switzerland when the snow gave way. He fell 70 feet into a crevasse and was only saved from plunging a further 700 feet after the BlackBerry in his breast pocket became wedged between the sides. It kept him stuck there for two hours until he was rescued.

Mr Fitzherbert, who lives in Kensington, said: "Fortunately the extra inches of the BlackBerry were enough to block the fall."
