Bin Laden keeps on the move

British forces are involved in a desperate hunt for Osama Bin Laden who is constantly on the move, according to intelligence reports.

"We are picking up scraps of information from the ground. But unfortunately this doesn't come to us in time," said a senior military source at the Ministry of Defence today.

It is understood that men of 40 Commando Royal Marines supporting small SAS patrols are engaged in the massive search for Bin Laden and some half-dozen of his lieutenants in the rocky highlands between Kandahar, Paktia province and the border at Jalalabad. British officers say they cannot be completely sure he is in this region - some reports suggest he may have headed north of the Hindu Kush into north-east Afghanistan - or even that he is still in the country. It is just possible that he could have slipped across the border among refugees into Pakistan.

Meanwhile, the Government today published a fresh dossier which, ministers asserted, shows yet more clearly that Bin Laden and his al Qaeda organisation plotted the 11 September attacks on America. However, the 21 pages revealed little fresh, hard evidence. The main new material is based on an unbroadcast video which, says today's document, was circulated among Bin Laden's supporters in al Qaeda.

Referring to the attacks on the Pentagon and the World Trade Center, he says: "It is what we instigated for a while, in self defence. And it was in revenge for our people killed in Palestine and Iraq. So if avenging the killing of our people is terrorism, let history be a witness that we are terrorists."

Tony Blair declared: "They are guilty. They will face justice."
