Baby burns to death in oven

A murder inquiry has been launched after a baby boy was found burning in an oven.

The three-week-old child was taken to hospital but died after suffering 90 per cent burns to his body.

An ambulance crew called police after the baby was found at a house in Peckham in the early hours of yesterday.

He was taken to King's College Hospital-in Denmark Hill where he died nine hours later. A 39-year-old woman thought to be the boy's mother was arrested and sectioned.

Paramedics and police officers who attended the tragedy have been offered counselling, a spokesman said.
