'Ave it at Wembley

England’s football players could be chastened with a cry of “’Ave it” from the stands, after fans voted comedian Peter Kay as the celebrity they would most like to sit next to at the rebuilt Wembley stadium.

The catchphrase — coined in a recent beer advert in which Kay’s character launches a ball skywards instead of honing his silky skills with his teammates — has clearly struck a chord with fans, who voted for the Phoenix Nights star ahead of fellow comedian Frank Skinner in a YouGov poll.

Male fans are also keen to chat about the offside law and share a cup of Bovril with Cat Deeley, after the childrens’ television presenter was voted the female they would most like to sit alongside.

However, there’s a cold reception from the terraces for model Jordan — former girlfriend of Blackburn Rovers Striker Dwight Yorke — who was the least popular female. Fans are clearly worried about Uri Geller bending the teaspoon in their half-time cuppa, too, as the Exeter City chairman was voted least popular male.

The poll was commissioned to mark the launch of Wembley’s Seat License scheme, which guarantees fans their favourite spot for the first ten years after the stadium opens in 2006.
