Arsenal star burgled during match

Arsenal star Thierry Henry's £1.5 million home has been ransacked by a burglar who escaped with £25,000 worth of property after tying up his housekeeper.

The burglar took cash, jewellery and clothes from the Swiss Cottage apartment of the £25 million-rated French striker as he played Italian giants Juventus in the Champions League.

He returned home to discover that the burglar, described as a powerfully-built black man in his twenties, had attacked and bound his housekeeper, a woman in her forties. The burglar also escaped with watches, CDs and leather coats.

Henry, who has scored 21 goals for Arsenal this season, called police and an ambulance. The housekeeper was treated in hospital for shock and bruising. Henry was described as "shocked and distressed" by the break-in on 5 December.

Police have now warned his Arsenal teammates - Sylvain Wiltord, Patrick Vieira, Robert Pires and Gilles Grimandi, who all live within a mile of Henry's home, to be on their guard. A detective said today: "They have all been given extra advice about home security. If the robber knew where Mr Henry lives, he may know where the others live too. Next time Arsenal play a night match - or are away in Europe - he may try to raid one of their homes."

He added: "There is no doubt he knew whose home he was burgling and there is little doubt that the burglar knew Thierry Henry would be busy playing for Arsenal that night, so the coast would be clear. It is not clear whether he knew the housekeeper would be in. He attacked her, tied her up and threatened her not to resist. He then went through the place from top to bottom looking for valuables."

A graduate of the French Football Academie at Clairefontaine, which produced many of the French World Cup winning squad, Henry played under Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger when he was in charge of Monaco, being moving on to Turin and then Juventus. He signed for Arsenal in August 1995 for £10million when he was 21.
