Area where properties start at £500,000

A favourite with the well-heeled, the west London "village" of Chiswick boasts some of the most expensive homes in the capital.

The average price of a terrace property in Chiswick is now more than £500,000 - although many homes sell for millions.

Property prices have risen by 6.5 per cent over the past year alone.

Traditional middle-class Chiswick resident is now being joined by a new breed of "media villager".

With the regeneration of some of the area's old Victorian schoolhouses, former BBC buildings and factory blocks, young professionals are flocking in for new apartments.

They can enjoy some of the best suburban restaurants in London including the awardwinning La Trompette and the FishWorks.

Chiswick is also home to a string of British film and TV stars including Bond actor Timothy Dalton and Vanessa Redgrave, Sir Trevor Nunn and Imogen Stubbs, TV hosts Ant McPartlin and Declan Donnelly and news presenter Natasha Kaplinsky.

Airedale Avenue is adjacent to the Hogarth Club, an expensive fitness and health club used by wealthy west London professionals.

Five minutes walk away is Turnham Green Terrace, one of the area's best streets for fresh food shopping featuring traditional fish shops and butchers, a greengrocer that supplies Downing Street, a French patisserie and a handful of top-class delicatessens.
