Another prize for Kylie

Kylie Minogue, it seems, is irresistible. Just days after being declared the owner of showbusiness's best voice and sexiest body in separate opinion polls, the diminutive Australian singer has triumphed again.

She has been crowned both favourite pop star and most beautiful woman of 2002 in Madame Tussaud's annual survey of its celebrity-obsessed visitors.

In the pop star category, Minogue emerges victorious over Robbie Williams and newcomer Gareth Gates. And her victory in the most beautiful woman category sees her beat Halle Berry into second place and Jennifer Lopez into third.

But it is bad news for 2001's most beautiful woman, Friends actress Jennifer Aniston. She doesn't even register in the 2002 poll. Unlike David Beckham - voted most handsome man and favourite sports personality for the second year running - Aniston appears to have faded from the public's consciousness.

That, though, is a fate disgraced former Blue Peter presenter John Leslie would probably jump at. Such has been the notoriety gained by Mr Leslie in 2002 that he is more disliked than Hitler by the 650 Madame Tussaud visitors questioned.

Leslie is beaten in the most hated person of the year category only by Saddam Hussein and Osama bin Laden, while Hitler fails to make an appearance in the category for the first time since the Tussaud poll began.

Leslie is also named most scandalous person of the year. Have I Got News For You presenter Angus Deayton comes second while former lovers Edwina Currie and John Major are joint third.

In the world of politics, Winston Churchill's victory in the BBC's Great Britons survey is repeated in the Tussaud poll, with him being named favourite politician. Far more intriguingly, last year's winner, Tony Blair, only makes third place. Ahead of Mr Blair in second place is Chancellor Gordon Brown.

There is good news for Conservative leader Iain Duncan Smith, named the least favourite politician of 2001: the Tory leader's unpopularity rating has improved in 2002.

He is now only the second least favourite politician, thanks to London Mayor Ken Livingstone, who tops the category. Zimbabwe's Robert Mugabe comes in a dishonourable third.

In the world of TV, the chirpy Geordies Ant and Dec are named joint favourite personalities, with the Osbourne family in second place and TV chef Jamie Oliver and The Office star Ricky Gervais taking joint third.

Tom Cruise is the favourite film star, beating Halle Berry into another second place and Pierce Brosnan - James Bond himself - into third.

Favourite fictional character is Harry Potter, followed by Bart Simpson and Frodo Baggins.

And when it comes to identifying stars of the future, Tussaud's visitors think the Cheeky Girls, then former Take That member Mark Owen and finally Tara Palmer-Tomkinson are the most likely to scale the heights of celebrity in 2003.
