Her golden skin glowing with health, Farrah Fawcett was one of the world's bestknown faces.

A poster featuring the Charlie's Angels star in a swimsuit sold an astonishing 30million copies in the 1970s.

Three decades on, it is hardly surprising that her looks have changed. But even her most loyal fan would have trouble recognising her.

Pictured at a fashion show in New York last week, 57-year-old Miss Fawcett renewed speculation that she has gone under the surgeon's knife.

'She hasn't kept her natural look,' said Harley Street plastic surgeon Apostolos Gaitanis. 'I think she has had some form of eye surgery. Also her nose has been over-reduced and that's why her nostrils are showing too much.

'She's got a nice jawline but in the cheekbone area the fat hasn't been pushed back so the cheeks look tired. Her top lip also looks more prominent than it should. It's very difficult to recognise her.'

Miss Fawcett married Six Million Dollar Man actor Lee Majors in 1973, but became a superstar in her own right as one of Charlie's Angels in the hit TV show, alongside Jaclyn Smith and Kate Jackson. She quit after one season, however, to take up a career in film and on stage.

In 1978, her relationship with Majors ended after she began an affair with his friend Ryan O'Neal.

Their subsequent relationship was stormy and as Miss Fawcett's career nosedived her erratic behaviour started to draw more attention than her talents.

In 1997, she parted from O'Neal, the father of her son Redmond, after she found him with starlet Leslie Stefanson.

A subsequent appearance on the David Letterman Show - where she rambled incoherently - led to rumours of a breakdown or a drug problem.

In addition, Redmond was expelled from school for smoking marijuana. Around that time, rumours surfaced that Miss Fawcett had undergone cosmetic surgery, including a £15,000 facelift plus breast and nose jobs. She has never commented on the reports.

As for the other original Angels, 55-year-old Jaclyn Smith was regularly voted the world's most beautiful woman in her heyday and continues to turn heads now.

Like Miss Fawcett, however, she has struggled to find lasting love.

In 1997, she was married for the fourth time, to cardiac surgeon Bradley Allen.

He helped her get over the public humiliation of previous husband Tony Richmond's fling with a make-up girl to whom he sent intimate letters complaining that Miss Smith did not enjoy sex. Kate Jackson, 54, has also been the subject of facelift speculation.

In fact, she has been confirmed as undergoing cosmetic surgery, although this was reconstructive work following a partial mastectomy when breast cancer was diagnosed in the 1980s.

Ill-health returned to haunt her a few years later when she underwent surgery for a hole in the heart in 1994.

Five years later, Miss Jackson left the cast of a series called Touched by an Angel, which it had been hoped would have spelled her comeback.

She denied rumours of a drink problem after fluffing her lines and stumbling on set.
