Amanda Knox 'is a diabolical she-devil'

Amanda Knox was subjected to a fierce character assassination today as she was described as a "diabolical, satanic, demonic she-devil," by a lawyer representing the man she accused of murder.

Knox, 24, is serving 26 years for the killing of British student Meredith Kercher, 21, who was found semi-naked and with her throat cut in her bedroom of the house the students shared with two other women.

She blamed the murder on bar owner Patrick Lumumba, who was arrested in a dawn raid in front of his family after she accused him following police questioning.

Knox told police she "remembered Patrick killing Meredith" and that she had stayed in the kitchen covering her "ears to drown out the screams".

Congolese-born Lumumba was kept in custody for two weeks before being released. Under Italian law he is entitled to sue Knox for slander. Today, his lawyer, Carlo Pacelli, launched a furious tirade against Knox, who was in court for the hearing, and said: "She falsely blamed Lumumba when she knew he was innocent. She put him in jail for two weeks away from his family.

"After poor Meredith, the second victim in all this is Patrick Lumumba - Amanda destroyed him as a man, husband, father, she muddied his character. She was a diabolical, satantic, demonic she-devil."

Seattle-born Knox and her former boyfriend, Italian Raffaele Sollecito, were jailed for murder in 2009.

The pair, who deny any wrongdoing, are appealing against their convictions.

Ms Kercher, from Coulsdon, Surrey, was in Perugia on an exchange year.
