Alan Titchmarsh’s B&Q deal within rules, says BBC

The BBC has come under fire for allowing presenter Alan Titchmarsh to become the face of Britain's biggest garden centre chain B&Q.

A picture of Titchmarsh, 60, who will film Alan's Garden Secrets, is in B&Q's summer 2010 brochure
and cut-outs of him will be in stores.

The BBC said his deal was "to provide gardening tips" and B&Q said he would not appear in adverts.

The Taxpayers' Alliance said the BBC "seems to be making a very fine distinction".
