After 70 years, Pearl Harbour sailor rests with comrades

Seventy years ago today, US naval officer Lee Soucy, 20, was finishing his breakfast on board USS Utah in Pearl Harbour when he heard Japanese bombers overhead. As he rushed to his battle station the ship was torpedoed and sank, taking 60 of his friends with it.

Mr Soucy died a year ago, aged 90, in Texas. Today his ashes, in a small urn, were returned to Utah's wreckage, taken down by naval divers, as military past and present gathered in Hawaii to honour the 2,390 killed there in the 1941 attack on the US fleet which took America into the Second World War.

The ceremony was one of five being held this week for servicemen who lived through the assault and want their remains placed in Pearl Harbour.
Mr Soucy's three children, several of his grandchildren and great-grandchildren attended, 11 family members altogether. His wife died this year.
