44 Royal Marines seize Afghan caves

Royal Marines have seized cave complexes deep in Afghanistan mountains in the biggest operation mounted so far by British troops in the country.

When the 44 Marines arrived at the caves in the Zawa Valley, along the Pakistan border, al Qaeda fighters had fled - indicating that al Qaeda members are trying to regroup in Pakistan. The Marines, supported by a Parachute Regiment mortar unit, are making the area safe for US infantry flushing out Taliban and al Qaeda resistance.
