40-year wait to grow your own

Almost 100,000 keen gardeners are stuck on council allotment waiting lists for up to 40 years, a study published today reveals.

The lists have grown by nearly a quarter in the last year alone, but only 483 plots in new allotment sites were brought into use by local authorities across England last year.
