Esquire magazine has been dishing out the advice on what men shouldn’t do when they hit the big 3-0 but surely finding out what you SHOULD be doing is far more fun?

We asked those in the know what they think are the must-do things to make your thirties go with a bang! So read on boys and girls, learn and enjoy!...

1. Spend over £10 on a bottle of wine and drink it all yourself — no more £2.99 special offers for you!

2. Experiment with sex toys — if you can’t face using them just leave them running — at least the neighbours will think you’re up to something

3. Go to a music festival - 3 days of mud can earn you a lot of respect with the kids

4. Stay up all night — What the heck! Lancome do a wonderful concealer for under-eye bags.

5. Blow at least £200 in an afternoon shopping binge — without feeling guilty.

6. Indulge in a dozen oysters with Champagne. So what if they look like bogies? They make you look sophisticated and give you the horn. Got it?!

7. Own (and cut up) a credit card — you don’t want to be digging around the back of the sofa for spare change for the rest of your life, do you?

8. Scuba-dive — people look kinda sexy in rubber!

9. Drive in a foreign country. Take a deep breath and do everything the other way around!

10. Go to a health spa — pamper yourself — you’ve got 30 hard years to scrub away.

11. Try moisturiser at least once, boys! Your partner will find you sexy in a smooth and non-flaky kind of way.

12. Travel further than Europe. Yes, your back might ache sitting on a plane for more than one hour but it’s worth going those extra thousand miles or so.

13. Travel alone — you can survive. Take a deep breath and discover yourself.

14. Be a bridesmaid! Put peach taffeta back on the map and make your mum proud.

15. Go on a 18-30 holiday when you're 31! Laugh out loud as you drink an 18-year-old under the table.

16. Embark on a personal fitness challenge — get your own Jim’ll Fix It type medal to show-off to your friends.

17. Learn something new. Take up a class and amaze your friends with how you manage to fit in origami with nights down the pub.

18. Lie about your age — so you knock a few years off every now and then…

19. Eat out at an expensive restaurant. Give Pizza Express the cold shoulder and go Ramsay instead.

20. Buy a massive telly. If you still watch as much TV as you did when you were twelve it’s time to admit it, ditch the portable and go plasma.

21. Own your own home. Stop giving your hard-earned cash to dodgy landlords.

22. Buy a decent bed. That squeaky one is keeping the whole street awake. Buy a luxurious bed that’ll keep you going until you’re 40.

23. Stop sharing a flat with six of your college mates - you left Uni. almost 10 years ago for crying out loud!

24. Buy a disposable camera - your memory gets hazier when you hit 30 and you can't remember much about that late night out with friends!

25. Get a good lawyer now - you're probably going to be buying a house, fighting your neighbour over an overgrown hedge or getting a divorce and fighting for custody of your kids over the next few years.

26. Buy a picnic hamper and an ice box - gone are the days of you and your mates getting hammered in the pub on a sunny Saturday afternoon followed by a kebab on the way home. It's picnics galore with your 30something coupled up friends. We know it hurts but it's true.

27. Buy a BBQ - everyone loves them and it'll make you popular.

28. Delete all the numbers of your exes on your phone. Although there is an argument you should keep them so you recognise the psycho's number when they call!

29. Get passport photographs taken now - capture yourself looking good while you can

30. Throw a huge party — celebrate the fact that you’re not 40!
