28-day party people

Most people manage the odd pub crawl or evening soirèe during the quiet month of February.

But one event being hosted by an exclusive members-only club is taking partying to a new level.

The bash goes on for a staggering 28 days and will be held at various venues all over the world.

Guests will be invited to smoke cigars over dinner with Fidel Castro in Cuba, drink Bloody Marys in Paris or attend a house party at Skibo Castle, Scotland, where Madonna and Guy Ritchie were married.

The ambitious venture, organised by the Renaissance Club - an online events club with numerous celebrities and high-fliers on its books - was launched with a party on Wednesday at The Collection restaurant, attended by actresses Jenny Agutter, Julienne Davis and actor Dominic Rowan, who are all executive members. The global events begin with a champagne lunch at the same venue in Chelsea on 1 February.

Each day from then on there will be parties at selected venues around the capital, Britain and Europe until 28 February. It is a schedule of celebrations that would leave even the most energetic of partygoers exhausted.

But one self-confessed social butterfly is taking full advantage. Ellen Lewis, 28, plans to conquer at least half of the 25 events, including a Bloody Mary lunch in Paris, a champagne, caviar and classical music evening at Caviar Kaspia in Mayfair, and a three-day party at Skibo Castle - at a cost of at least £2,500.

She said: "I can't wait. I'm really excited. I'm sure it will be a bit tiring but I have invited friends along to some of the nights so it should be really good fun."

Miss Lewis, a PR executive from Notting Hill, said: "I'm pretty much out most evenings anyway with work or friends, so the idea really appeals to me."

The 28-day party was the idea of David Johnstone, 28, who set up the Renaissance Club three years ago. Members pay £200 a year to receive invitations to a host of exclusive events as well as discounts at restaurants, bars and designer clothes stores.

Mr Johnstone, from Chelsea, said: "We had a Venetian mask party at the Mayfair Club for 750 people before Christmas, which was fantastic.

"But then you get somebody like David Beckham who will throw a party the next night and nobody is talking about yours anymore. After that event I thought, 'What can I do that nobody else could, or would want to do?' And that's when I came up with the idea."

The profits from each event will go to 28 charities-chosen by members. It Girls Isabella Hervey and Alicia Rowntree were among the guests at the event's launch at The Collection restaurant on Wednesday.
