10 held over garage murder

A group of travellers was arrested in Kent today by police investigating the fatal shooting of a couple on bonfire night.

Officers from the Kent and Devon and Cornwall forces arrested 10 people and are now questioning them about the killings.

Graham, 60, and Carol Fisher, 53 who owned and ran a garage, were murdered at their bungalow near Wadebridge, Cornwall, on 5 November. Mr Fisher was shot twice in the hall while his wife was shot inside the bungalow and again in the back as she tried to escape. She was shot a third time as she lay wounded on the ground.

The killers then bludgeoned the couple around their heads with a blunt instrument as they lay dying.

Devon and Cornwall Police said its officers had this morning joined Kent Police in a joint operation to arrest people from the Canterbury and Dover areas.

A police spokesman said they had been arrested as a result of an investigation into "a series" of serious criminal offences including the murders of Mr and Mrs Fisher.

He added that all those arrested were being held at Folkestone police station where they were due to be questioned. Detective Superintendent Stuart Newberry of Devon and Cornwall Police said: "Mr and Mrs Fisher were murdered in the most horrific of circumstances in their own home on bonfire night.

"These arrests are the continuation of just one of a number of lines of inquiry being looked at by my team.

"The inquiry generally is making good progress. We have had a good response to appeals for information in the South-West.

"However, needless to say anyone in the Kent area with information relating to my investigation is asked to contact us," he added.
