Hidden design gem:
A team of local craftsmen working in stone, iron and wood have restored and modernised the hotel. Their exquisite work is seen throughout the hotel, from the antique elevator at the entrance and the curvaceous staircase that threads around it to the four outsized stained glass windows.
Vintage black and white photographs of Madrid in the 1920s set against pale walls provide another link between old and new.

Obrador has slept in many of the 78 bedrooms and suites at Urso Hotel and finds it impossible to pick one out. “Each bedroom has its own charm but the suites on the fourth floor with a private terrace are really fantastic, a perfect combination between comfort and design,” he says.
