Chelsea Flower Show garden is set to become public ‘pocket park’ near London’s first urban forest

A gold medal-winning garden from the RHS Chelsea Flower Show could be installed in south London as a new public park.

M&G Garden from last year’s autumn show is to be relocated to a site off Great Suffolk Street near Tate Modern in Southwark, subject to planning permission.

The garden, designed by Harris Bugg and Charlotte Harris, was the first-ever medal winner to be designed to become a public “pocket park”.

It was created using recycled and reclaimed materials, selected to show how they “could be beautiful as well as environmentally responsible.”

Developer Fabrix purchased the garden to inject nature into the area between Blackfriars Road and the Tate Modern and is now calling it The Roots in the Sky Garden.

Named after Fabrix’s Roots in the Sky project just around the corner on Pocock Street, it will be maintained by community gardeners. A planning application will be submitted soon.
