RIDING

The San Roque Club in southern Spain has an equestrian centre run by British Horse Society-qualified instructors. You can learn Andalucian riding techniques or more experienced riders can choose a cartujano horse and head out into the countryside for picnic and beach rides. The club also has a championship 18-hole course and is home to the European Qualifying School and the Seve Ballesteros Natural Golf School. QUAD-BIKING

Exertion is not normally associated with golf, but the Westin Turnberry Resort in Scotland has a new Activity Centre. As well as quad biking (£25 for 30 minutes), there's 4 x 4 off-road driving (£50pp for 45 minutes) as well as hill-walking, shooting, riding, archery, falconry, fishing and mountain biking. For golfers, there's the new Kintyre course as well as the Open venue of the Ailsa. A two-night break costs £582.50pp half-board and activities.
