Pachamama - bar review

What they say: A new Peruvian restaurant and bar with a British twist whose aesthetic is inspired by a faded colonial home.

What we say: I loved the décor – it was indeed like being offered a drink at the house of the eccentric Peruvian godparents you never knew you had. The 16-seater bar is a colourful place to sink a few cocktails – without being pressured to stay for dinner – where classic Peruvian drinks are updated with seasonal British ingredients.

Good for: Dates, sharpeners after a hard day's shopping around Bond Street and, of course, dinners with your long-lost godparents.

Order: A Pisco Sour (the classic Peruvian drink) to start, followed by my top pick, the short and sweet Mama Killer, which takes the gimlet back to its roots by making it with sherbert (grapefruit in this instance) instead of cordial. If you do stay for food, the Wild Cornish sea bass ceviche was the highlight: it comes with samphire, radish, sweet potato, all bathed in tiger's milk. Delicious.

By the way: It’s a really handy place to know about if you suddenly realise queuing in the rain for Patty & Bun down the road isn’t for you.
