The BBC Proms season kicks off on Friday, marking the beginning of just under two months of world-class music, played by some of the finest musicians and conductors around today.
The vast majority of concerts take place at the iconic Royal Albert Hall, which supplies a number of on-the-door tickets for every performance – for just £5.
The much-loved tradition of Promming sees hundreds of people turn up outside the venue looking to secure one of the cheap tickets.
There are usually at least 500 tickets available, although as many as 1,350 can be on offer, depending on how many pass-holders are in attendance.
All tickets are standing, and are split between the Arena or the Gallery – the former, a large space in the centre of auditorium, allows audience members to get to within metres of those on stage, while the latter runs round the top of the hall, offering an elevated view of proceedings.
Tickets usually go on sale two and a half hours before start time, although for the more popular weekend performances, it can be advised to turn up much earlier to secure a ticket.
Once inside, the standing space is unreserved and often crowded – and be sure to bring a comfortable pair of shoes, because you’ll be on your feet for around three hours.
