Tate Britain to display Frank Auerbach’s unseen Camden paintings

Frank Auerbach's dedication to his patch of London is recognised in a show at Tate Britain that includes seven previously unseen paintings of the area around his Camden studio.

The painter, who came to Britain in 1939 as a refugee from Nazi Germany, has worked in his Mornington Crescent studio since 1954.

Curator Catherine Lampert said: “He draws every morning around dawn, wherever he is, usually somewhere from Euston to Primrose Hill, and more and more in recent years around his studio in Mornington Crescent, and there is something about the chaotic ever-changing mix of the area that fascinates him.”
