What makes us human? New exhibition aims to unravel mysteries of evolution

If you've ever wondered what makes you human, a new exhibition at the Natural History Musem could help shed some light.

The free Human Evolution gallery aims to answer questions such as 'Where do we come from?' as it traces our evolution from monkey to man.

It features a whole host of ancient skulls, teeth and jawbones, including the first adult female Neanderthal cranium ever discovered.

The most scientifically accurate life-size Neanderthal and early Homo sapiens models ever made are also on display.

Professor Chris Stringer, research leader in human origins at the Museum explained the background to it: "There's only one kind of human around on the earth now us, homo sapiens, but go back even 100,000 years and there were at least 4 different kinds of humans on the earth.

"In this gallery we've actually got 8 different kinds of humans, arguably 8 different human species, we're the only survivor of all of those, if you like, experiments in how to be human."

The exhibition is open now at the Natural History Museum.
