The project was inspired by a prayer called Twilight People written by US Rabbi Reuben Zellman, often recited for Transgender Day of Remembrance.
Photographer Christa Holka said: “I found it fascinating that transgender people in this project found a connection to their religion in kind of beautiful ways that made me think about religion in a different way.
“It can be a personal journey that does not necessarily have to be about what larger parts of religion are about – discriminatory things about religion, things that made them feel unwanted, or make people like me feel like I cannot connect to religion.”
