Split your commute for your health - and your enjoyment

Adrian Read lives in East Dulwich and regularly uses Santander Cycles as part of his morning and evening commute.

The way I enjoy cycling is…

“I like to have a bit of reading time on the way to and from work, so I take a 30-minute bus ride either to Victoria or Vauxhall, then pick up a Santander Cycle, and ride the 20 minutes to Kensington, where I work. And then I do it all in reverse on the way back.

My cycle style…

“I tend to be a fair-weather cyclist. The choice and flexibility – and in particular, not having to be responsible for the equipment – mean that the Santander Cycles really work for me. Also if I’m out with, say, my son we can hire an extra bike and cycle to wherever we’re going. My favourite route is… “Depending on how much time I have, I might take a scenic route. In summertime it’s lovely to take a detour through Hyde Park for some greenery.

I like cycling because…

“It definitely saves me money. I am a yearly member so I pay the £90 fee access to the bike for the year, which includes all 30 minute journeys. There are charges for journeys over 30 minutes but I never go over that time limit. It works out at 25p per day, which compares well with the tube, and usually it’s faster too.

How I relax…

“When you’re sitting in front of a screen all day at work, as I am, it’s good to get your heart pumping and your legs going – not to mention getting some fresh air. At the end of a hard day it’s therapeutic to get on a Santander Cycle and unwind.”
