Next came a Belgian lager, which was admired for its maltiness and for being organic. Then followed a traditional bitter, Bass Finest Ale. This brought the comment "a bit nondescript", although thousands of hardened male bitter drinkers on their sixth pint might disagree. The panel also objected to the funereal black of the label, preferring that of a Clouded Yellow Vanilla Wheat Beer, which displayed a meadow scene complete with yellow butterfly.
However, it was the smell which really sold them on this one, with Carolyn suggesting: "You could wear this as a perfume." Carol Leach, 51, a housewife from Enfield, said: "That's why we like it, it smells like a cake."
