Spare a thought for all those poor students who can't afford a drink in London's pricey pubs and bars.

Jolly Anglers

33 Station Road, N22 (020-8888 1844). A great deal on offer

As part of a new promotion to attract 'cheapies', the Laurel Pub Company has introduced an all-day, everyday special offer on food and drink. Hungry Horaces will be able to 'dine' on steak-and-kidney pud or lasagne for just £1.95, with a plate of chips costing an extra 50p. Castlemaine XXXX is on tap at £1.65 per pint, an unspecified gin is being sold with tonic water for £1.65, with a vodka Red Bull costing just £1.75. Other pubs offering a similar deal are the Forresters, 27 Lordship Lane, SE22, and the Royal Albert, 43 St Stephen's Terrace, SW8.

The Lot

1 Duke Street, Richmond, Surrey (020-8940 6423). Cut-price pitchers

Part of the It's A Scream group of pubs, which are geared towards the student market. They're offering four-pint pitchers of Grolsch lager for £5.95, and for an extra £3 you can include a platter of dips with spicy onion rings, breaded mushrooms and garlic bread. Alternatively try a panini sandwich with a pint of Carlsberg for £4.50. Other venues are: the Hayfield in Bethnal Green, The Mitre in Islington and The Court on Tottenham Court Road.

The Langley

5 Langley Street, WC2 (020-7836 5005). Cheap deals and late nights

Slide into this popular latenight subterranean party venue early enough and there are some good deals to be had. The daily happy hour between 5pm and 7pm sees cocktails at £3.25 each, all spirits at half price (full price is just £2.75), and bottles of wine from £6. A basket of scampi and chips or a grilled 5oz steak sandwich with boursin cheese seems reasonable at just £3 each.

The Soho Bar

12-13 Greek Street, W1 (020-7025 7844). Low-priced cocktails in a discreet location

Former late-night drinking den known as Mondo, now a modern rendition of a 21st-century wine bar with plenty of hide-away holes for those wanting to party with discretion. Turn up with the afterwork crowd and the happy hour (5pm-7pm) offers all cocktails at £2.50, champagne cocktails at £2.75, house spirits just £1.50, and bottles of wine (except house) are half price (from £6.25). A plate of fish and chips is also reduced to £3 during happy hours.

Revolution

Drown yourself in vodka at one of South London's latest party venues where more than 80 vodka brands grace the shelves. The weekend brunch menu, available all day, includes a dangerous deal of pitchers of the Revolution Bloody Mary for £10 - the perfect recovery drink. Soak this up with a full English breakfast for £6, or eggs Benedict and a salmon and cream cheese bagel, also £6. The Revolution bar on St Anne's Court in Soho is offering a similar weekend deal.
