The Damned and the Police were among regular performers at The Roxy in Neal Street, Covent Garden, but by the time the Police became giants of rock it had been turned into a shopping development.
Some stalwarts of London nightlife are managing to survive. Veteran clubs such as Tramp and Annabels remain as popular as they ever were.
The 100 Club, where the Sex Pistols held their riotous concerts, is still around, and The Mean Fiddler, once the pride of Harlesden and which hosted Roy Orbison and The Pogues, has closed down and moved to the West End.
