There is something very louche about drinking champagne before tea, but presumably that's the whole point. We almost forgot about the food but when it started arriving, it was like being transported into an Enid Blyton novel: sandwiches, tartlets - and smoked salmon terrine. The actress had Welsh rarebit, which she had been told was an 'absolute classic' and it was, though she could have chosen a scrambling Highlander (whatever that is - possibly a member of the Cabinet).
