Sunday roasts in London: Grand Trunk Road

Set in sunny South Woodford, which those who aren’t local will think of as the perilous outer edges of the Central Line, this modern Indian is run by Rajesh Suri, previously CEO of Tamarind in Mayfair and its sister sites, along with its former head chef Dayashankar Sharma.

A new addition to its offering sees Sunday lunch given an Indian twist.

The main event Take a traditional British roast. Add lashings of spice and some first class marination. The result is hearty but vibrant line-up spanning a whole Punjabi grilled chicken, marinated in spices and grilled until its skin has crisped, and a tender peshwari lamb shank rubbed with seven spice mix.

For the less meaty of mind, there is the option of masala-spiced pan-roast sea bass, or a tandoor-grilled spiced florets of broccoli. Everything comes with suitably fluffy cumin-spiced roast potatoes.

When can I try it? From 12-3.30pm on Sundays.
