Going Out | RestaurantsPut the egg in extravagantMark Sage|Evening Standard10 April 2012In a city of power lunches and expense accounts, a new extravagance is on offer to New York diners - a $1,000 (£565) omelette. The six-egg creation is filled with lobster and 10 ounces of sevruga caviar. Chefs at Le Parker Meridien hotel have named it the Zillion-Dollar Frittada. There is just one snag - no one has ordered the omelette, which has been on the menu for two weeks. "Every six months we come up with new dishes," said the hotel's manager Steven Pipes.A budget version of the omelette, with one ounce of caviar, costs $100 (£56). Mr Pipes said: "Since we knew it was going to be a very expensive dish we decided to have some fun with it. It's not just a gimmick, though. It tastes good."The ingredients are: six eggs; one tablespoon of chopped chives; one-and-a-half tablespoons of butter; one lobster; five tablespoons of heavy cream; 10 ounces of sevruga caviar.MORE ABOUTChefsEggsHotelsLobster
