It's the sister restaurant of St John on St John Street but this is more relaxed and the service is excellent. It's like a mezze or tapas set-up, so you order a lot of dishes and share them around - it's really sociable.

They've got a good atmosphere and good service. The food is an interesting mixture of Spanish and North African - with a lot of saffron dishes. Apparently, the people who run it travelled through southern Spain and North Africa.

When I've got time or if I've got somebody coming for lunch, we go to New World. It's a very authentic Hong Kong-style restaurant. They do fantastic dim sum, and the waitresses push trolleys around piled high with dumplings. My favourite is the big, wide, flat noodles stuffed with prawns or pork, like a pancake.

On a quiet Sunday night, after a busy weekend, I go to Green Papaya. Vietnamese food is clean and fresh and it's a perfect light meal for a Sunday evening.
I particularly like their pancakes with chopped prawns, leaves and mint.

I suppose you could call it a gastropub, though I hate that expression. Their menu is always changing and they run out of things, but everything is fresh, and they don't overcomplicate themselves. Midweek, or if we're just popping out for a bite, that's our local.
