The Pinstripe is a largely forgotten club, where Soho's louche demimonde schmoozed '60s showbiz. Profumo's fateful meeting with Christine Keeler, which ultimately brought the then Tory government down, took place in these compact basement premises, apparently.

Forty years on, brothers Dez and Gary McAusland have transformed a narrow vault into a seriously sexy den. The interior design is on the money - reflective surfaces, glass bar, sleek leather divans, flattering lighting, effective aircon, calming feature fish tanks and hush booths for intimate tétes-a-tétes.

A restrained colour palette of cream and black opens up a space which might otherwise seem claustrophobic. We're on the cusp of good taste veering towards tacky opulence, but it works - think Anna Wintour's stretch limo meets Hugh Hefner's private jet. My date claims it's more like the set of a Kouros ad, however.

The drinks list is impressive - innovative champagne cocktails, Oyster Martinis and the gin-based John Meets Christine all appeal - while sushi and sashimi will suit the willowy blondes who gravitate towards this brand of glam. Expect slick service from Soho House and Sketch defectors. Well worth a visit (phone ahead to ensure entry, it's tiny), but perhaps Cabinet ministers should steer clear, lest a fresh 'Scandal' scuppers Tony's tenure.
