Marathon munchies

It's hungry work running the Flora London Marathon, even for those who are standing on the sidelines. Just watching all those pistonning quads and sweaty brows is enough to inspire an appetite, so if you're the kind of sportsperson who believes that cheering on others' efforts is a great way to burn a few calories, then head for a nearby restaurant.

All these eateries are offering special deals on marathon day - some foody, some boozy. And if you're feeling guilty about deserting the supertroopers along the track, order something low-fat and call it training for next year.

1. The Admiral Hardy

Named after a chum of Lord Nelson's, this cheery pub has been serving punters since 1831, although the home-made vodkas, like the modern touches to the menu, are probably a tad more recent than that.

2. INC Bar & Restaurant

Style guru Laurence Llewelyn-Bowen's venture into the culinary forests is rather more upmarket than its neighbour the Admiral Hardy, but anyone who wants to check out his interiors (oh yes, and the food) at close quarters can head here.

Built on the site of a former coaching inn, this tavern boasts a lovely retro interior and stupendous French food.

*4. The North Pole Restaurant

This wacky, upmarket Greenwich pub comes complete with grand piano, although anyone hunting sustenance during daylight should note that it doesn't open until 6.30pm.

Pasta is supposed to be good for athletes, isn't it? Those still deep in couch potato-denial - or merely upholding anti-Atkins prejudices - should head for this laid-back Conran venue.
Offer: two courses for £11.50 or three for £13.50, from the set menu, both with a glass of house wine. Available for lunch or for dinner between 6pm and 7.30pm. Maximum group of six diners.

An interesting mixture of Indian, Chinese and Malay cuisine.
Offer: enjoy a complimentary Singapore Sling on arrival with Kueh Pie Tee (a Malaysian appetiser of rice flour baskets with yam, bean, carrot and prawn filling), and a four-course set menu (excluding lobster and crab) at 50 per cent off (so £16 per person instead of £32).
