At the end of the meal we both looked a bit frightened. Barefoot said, 'You can't look at Jewish food without indigestion setting in.' It felt like a brick had settled sideways in our bellies. We considered what we had wolfed down - bread, fatty, salty beef, matzo, latkes, cucumbers in vinegar, dumplings, noodles, more bread, chopped liver, eggs, deep-fried balls of fish, and lots of stock to help that carb-load grow to twice its size.
