Liberty Kitchen: Balls, no chains as prisoners turn chefs

Prisoners at HMP Pentonville turned street food chefs at an event marking one year of Liberty Kitchen, a social enterprise that aims to teach inmates culinary skills and prepare them for life on the outside.

For the past three months, prisoners working under chef Sebastien Lauret have been learning to prepare a variety of dishes.

At last night’s event, guests were served a selection of different meatballs from a “Ball No Chain” range.

The prisoners’ food has been sold at nearby Primrose Hill market, and there are plans to expand to other street food markets.
